Making Christmas Crafts with your child is a fun way to get into the holiday spirit. Christmas crafts are also a great way to decorate your house with inexpensive, homemade decorations.

If you're having a Christmas party at home or your child's school, include a craft project to provide a quiet break from boisterous games. Crafts can also serve as party favors.

Snowflakes
Cut snowflakes out of white paper. For a stained glass effect cut two identical snowflakes (two pieces of paper folded together). Then place a colored tissue paper circle between the snowflakes and glue together. Tape against a window so the light can shine through the tissue.

Luminaries
Cut snowflake or star patterns on one side of a paper lunch bag. Weigh bag down with an inch of sand or gravel and light with votive candle or battery powered tea light.

Paper Chains
Cut construction paper into strips of approximately 1 inch wide by 9 inches long (the length of a standard piece of construction paper). Glue, tape, or staple strip into a ring. Then add rings to form a chain. Hang across doorway or on Christmas tree.

Snowman Candy Jar
Draw snowman face on baby food jar with black permanent marker. Fill jar with white mint candy and give as gifts or party favors.

Gingerbread House

Make a gingerbread house. Decorate with white icing and red hots, gumdrops, and peppermints. If you're not a baker, you can construct a holiday house from Poptarts.

Beading
Provide a variety of beads in holiday colors to string on cord for necklaces.

Bookmarks
Cut bookmark shapes from thick paper. Decorate with markers and holiday stickers.

Holiday Treats
Provide red hots, crushed peppermints and other holiday candy to decorate iced sugar cookies or cupcakes.

School Photo Ornaments
Cut star, circle or other shape from construction paper. Glue child's school photo onto shape. Decorate with holiday stickers and have child write her name and age on the ornament. Laminate ornament. Then use hole punch to cut a hole near top of ornament an tie ribbon through hole to hang ornament on tree.

Homemade Cards
Provide a variety of papers, holiday stickers, markers, and glitter pens for children to decorate homemade cards.

Gift Wrap
Use large rubber stamps to decorate large white or brown sheets/rolls of paper to use for holiday gift wrap.

Canvas Tote Bags
Provide fabric markers for children to decorate plain canvas bags (available at craft stores).

Greeting Card Ornaments
Cut old greeting cards into holiday shapes (tree, star, candy cane) and decorate with glitter and ribbon for easy Christmas tree ornaments.

Snow Globes
Glue a small plastic holiday figure such as a snowman, santa, or reindeer to the inside of a baby food jar lid with waterproof glue and allow to dry. Fill jar with water and add glitter, confetti, or plastic snow. Tightly screw lid on jar, shake and turn upside down.

Snowy Pine Cones
Paint glue on the tips of a pine cone and sprinkle with white glitter. For an extra snowy effect, spray paint pine cones white before adding glitter tips.

Holiday Sachets
Cut approximately 9 inch circles from lace or netting. Place whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, and dried orange or lemon peel in the center of the circle. Gather edges of circle together and tie with a colorful ribbon.
