A Father's Love Knows No Boundaries

The first thing I do when designing a scrapbook page is to choose the pictures I want to use. The next step is to choose the background paper and contrasting colors that match the pictures.

The next step is the most important step in making a scrapbook page. What is the theme you want for your page? What do you want your page to express? For this page I wanted to make a Father's Day page for the mom-stuff web site. I wanted it to use a picture of my son-in-law and my grandson. This is one of my favorite pictures. My son-in-law was able to come home for the birth of his son and then had to return to Iraq. There was such joy in seeing his first born come into the world and such pain leaving him. missing so much of the early part of his life. The theme I wanted to express was the hard ship and sacrifice of our soldiers and their children on this Father's Day. I want to honor the sacrifice these families are making to keep us safe.

I would normally pick my background color to match the picture, but for this one I wanted to show the distance between Fathers and their families serving across the world. I went on to the Internet and did a Google map search and found a black and white map I liked. I printed it and created my background.

The next step is to design the page (or pages). For this page I did not need much designing. I had the background, one picture and the title. I bordered the picture in white and then black. When putting this page together the map was a bit distracting so I covered it with a plain clear sheet of paper.

I made my title from my Cricut Cartridge's Cursive. I cut the letters at one inch. I love to use my Cricut because then the title and frames will match perfectly. For this page I used black because I wanted the writing to stand out to convey my message. (Note: when I am designing a page I use some construction paper to cut out my designs from first. This lets me experiment with the size without using my scrapbook paper. Center frameed picture on your background page. Center and glue on the title. For this page I put it in a black 12 x 12 frame.
